About Cosmic Devotion

Reviving the desert mysteries of the Heavenly Human

Across the ancient deserts of Mesopotamia, the Levant, and Egypt, sacred traditions imagined a cosmos alive with divine presence.

Heaven was not simply a distant destination. It was a living reality, encountered through temple ritual, visionary ascent, sacred music, prayer, and the transformation of human consciousness.

These traditions offer a radically different understanding of what it means to be human.

What Is Cosmic Devotion?

Cosmic Devotion is our name for the ancient and evolving practices through which human beings sought to participate in the sacred life of the cosmos.

In the temples of Mesopotamia and ancient Israel, architecture and ritual reflected the relationship between earthly and heavenly worlds. In Jewish apocalyptic and Gnostic ascent traditions, visionaries journeyed among the heavens, encountered angelic beings, and received revelations of the divine mysteries.

In Syriac and Egyptian Christian traditions, humanity's luminous nature became a central theme of sacred poetry, prayer, and spiritual transformation. Islamic mystical traditions likewise preserved profound visions of ascent, celestial encounter, and the human being's relationship to the divine.

These traditions are not identical. Yet across their different languages, scriptures, and sacred worlds, we encounter a recurring possibility: that human life can become a meeting place between heaven and earth.

Who Is the Heavenly Human?

The Heavenly Human is a constellation of ancient ideas about humanity's relationship to the divine. Sometimes an outside figure come to save humanity, and sometimes an archetype of whom humanity was destined to become.

We encounter related images in the primordial humanity of creation traditions, the exalted figures of Jewish apocalyptic literature, the luminous and heavenly humanity of early Christian writings, and the perfected human being of Islamic mysticism.

Some traditions describe ascent through the heavens. Others speak of garments of light, the recovery of a forgotten identity, or the restoration of humanity to its original glory.

Together, they invite a remarkable question:

What if the purpose of spiritual life is not to escape our humanity, but to discover its fullest, most luminous expression?

A Living Practice

At House of Divine Radiance, these mysteries are not merely subjects of historical curiosity.

We explore them through scholarship, sacred texts, contemplative practice, devotional music, art, pilgrimage, and embodied encounter.

Our work moves between the worlds of Harran, Edessa, Jerusalem, Babylon, and Alexandria, tracing the ancient relationships between temple, cosmos, and the human being.

Through this work, we cultivate three qualities at the heart of the House:

Inner Wholeness · Sacred Wonder · Cosmic Belonging

Not as distant ideals, but as possibilities to be explored and lived.

The Heavenly Human is both an ancient mystery and a contemporary invitation: to rediscover the relationship between our earthly lives and the luminous heavens.

Welcome to Cosmic Devotion.
