Origin of the Name
House of Divine Radiance takes its name from the ancient understanding of the cosmos as a living, luminous reality, in which heaven and earth are joined through sacred encounter.
Previously, the House was known as Temple of Divine Radiance. "Divine Radiance" as a concept was given to Lisa Moriah during prayer in 2020 and was indicated as a foundational aspect of her work.
Serendipitously, the House's name echoes an ancient sacred building at Harran, an important early site for astral and ascent wisdom, and a landscape fully of Heavenly Humanity. This connection only became apparent after Lisa Moriah had made several trips to Harran in 2023-2024.
Records indicate there was a House of the Radiance at Heaven, É-me-lam-an-na or 𒂍𒈨𒉈𒀭𒈾 in ceremonial Sumerian, which was recorded as having been rebuilt along with Sîn's temple House of Rejoicing, E-ḫul-ḫul or 𒂍𒄾𒄾 , by Ashurbanipal.
The House is a place for recovering the wisdom of those who sought that encounter through pilgrimage, prayer, sacred sound, visionary ascent, and the mysteries of the heavenly temple.
Our emblem gathers this vision into a single image.
The Pearl Between Worlds
Suspended within a mandorla, a sacred almond-shaped enclosure traditionally associated with divine radiance, is a luminous pearl.
Above it stretch the star-filled heavens. Below it lies the desert earth. The pearl rests in the Midst, the mysterious space where the earthly and heavenly worlds meet.
The pearl carries several ancient associations. In the Gospel of Matthew, it is the treasure of incomparable value for which a merchant relinquishes everything. In the Hymn of the Pearl, preserved in the Syriac Acts of Thomas, it becomes the object of a soul's journey of remembrance and return. In the poetry of Ephrem the Syrian, the pearl reveals mysteries of divine light and hidden wisdom.
And in Proverbs, Lady Wisdom is declared more precious than pearls.
For the House, the pearl evokes the Heavenly Human: the luminous possibility within humanity, discovered through encounter with the divine.
The surrounding mandorla is at once a threshold, a cosmic vessel, and an image of sacred generation. Its form invites us to contemplate the mystery of life emerging between worlds.
From the Tree to the Pearl
Our original emblem featured the Tree of Life, recalling the sacred trees of the ancient temple and the biblical traditions of Lady Wisdom.
The pearl marks an evolution of that vision into a new phase.
The tree speaks of sacred roots, life, and the meeting of heaven and earth. The pearl draws us toward the mystery of transformation within that meeting.
Both belong to the world of Wisdom. As Proverbs tells us, she is more precious than pearls, and a Tree of Life to those who embrace her.
Lady Wisdom's tree remains a cherish icon of celestial ascent and a bridge between worlds.
A House Still Becoming
House of Divine Radiance is not an attempt to recreate an early Mesopotamian temple, a Jewish chevrah, a Gnostic church, or any other distinct community from among the celestially-inspired desert mystical lineages. Nor does it belong to any one historical religious tradition.
This is a sanctuary between earth and heaven.
